The first ECA regional thematic seminar was held in Lisbon on 31st January 2017. The seminar was hosted by the Portuguese agency A3ES. These regional seminars are an iniative of ECA Working Group 2 and have the aim of organising small-scale thematic seminars, always in a different region and on a topic that is relevant locally. The small-scale of the seminars allow for more interaction and in-depth discussions.
The first regional seminar was focused on instititutional accreditation/reviews/assessements. The seminar was attended by some 30 participants, including local experts, HEIs representatives, and agency staff. As Portugal is introducing institutional assessments the seminar was very timely. In additon to the Portuguse case the institutional reviews in Flanders and the institutional accreditation (“Systemakkreditierung”) in Germany were presented. Discussions emerged on the different systems, more general aspects of institutional accreditations/reviews/assessments, as wel as the relevance for the local context.
