“The European University Association (EUA) has published details of how the organisation and its members are contributing to the development of the European Research Area.
The EUA report outlines the main activities by organisations and its university members, structured around the five ERA priorities. It also highlights a series of key messages for future ERA development, notably stressing the importance of developing a European Higher Education Area alongside the ERA. The EUA has also underlined that the “right balance of autonomy and accountability is essential for universities to be successful and competitive in the global higher education and research environment”.
The EUA says it will now be important to reflect on the results of the ERA Progress Report as well as on how to further contribute to the development of the ERA Monitoring Mechanism in order to track progress effectively and define the most important next steps for the ERA. The EUA is one of the European stakeholder organisations in research and innovation that signed memoranda of understanding and joint statements with the European Commission, committing them to working together towards the ERA goals.
The report follows the recent publication of the Commission’s update on the development of an ERA.”
