Ph.D refers to Doctor of Philosophy. A person who attains a doctorate of philosophy is awarded the Doctorate degree.
A Doctorate degree is the third-level higher education award. It refers to the third cycle in the Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area. The degree usually requires a three to four years of study, mostly as a period of research.
