On 8 July 2015 the German Accreditation Council and the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) have signed in The Hague a mutual recognition agreement with regard to the accreditation of joint degrees. From now on joint programmes leading to the award of a joint degree in which German, Dutch and/or Flemish HEI participate only need one accreditation decision (in Germany or by NVAO). The other accreditation organisation will then recognise that decision without any additional assessment procedure.

The organisation that carries out the first accreditation can use its regular accreditation framework. The realised level of the programme and the feasibility (work load) of the programme should always be part of the assessment.

An investigation of the possibilities for future mutual recognition in case of an institutional accreditation/audit is also part of the agreement.
