Higher education institution

An establishment providing higher education and recognised by the competent authority of a [country] as belonging to its system of higher education.[1]

Generally, a higher education institution in the European Higher Education Area awards degrees linked to the first (e.g. Bachelor's degree), second (e.g. Master's degree) and/or third (e.g. Doctorate degree) cycle of the Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area.
