A Bologna cycle refers to a cycle included in the overarching Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area. This framework was developed in the framework of the Bologna Process and provides a common understanding of the outcomes of a programme as represented by the qualification (diploma).
The cycles of this Bologna framework are:
- Short cycle - Associate degree ( and corresponds with EQF Level 5)
- First cycle - Bachelor's degree (and corresponds with EQF Level 6)
- Second cycle - Master's degree (and corresponds with EQF Level 7)
- Third cycle - Doctorate degree - (and corresponds with EQF Level 8)
